DIY OSW Cards!

Standard

Recently I stumbled upon OSW (One Sheet Wonder) which lets you design numerous cards out of one patterned paper. I chose OSW for 12×12 sheets and designed 10 beautiful cards.

I used the given OSW template and made few tweaks while preparing cards.

Finally, I used one A4 sheet and divided it into two to prepare base card. I used pink floral design with brown background to contrast with the cream base card color. Enjoy my simple yet elegant DIY OSW cards.

Father’s Day DIY Card

Standard

It’s been long since I have posted or blogged about cards and crafts, so I thought Father’s Day is good occasion to start with.

I have made this father’s day card that looks like shirt and tie that dad usually wear and inside this is another day with the message. This card is little simple to make and all you need is just the dimensions to be sure about.

First I have made the shirt and then pasted tie over the shirt and glued those collars. After that I have pasted message card inside of the shirt. And it is ready!!

DIY Mini Present Garland

Standard

I was going through some craft ideas, and saw this amazing Mini Present Garland which not looked beautiful but is easy to make. I am sharing the link where I saw it and also steps to make.

You would need: Colorful crepe paper, thin board (eg that of any pack like tea, corn flakes), scissors, glue and thread (preferrably contrasting with crepe colors)

1. Take the thin board and make them into small boxes like that of match box.

Christmas Snowflake DIY

Standard

As Christmas is approaching, I thought of doing some craft for Christmas Decoration. I have made Christmas Snowflake from normal paper. You can use any colored paper or heavy paper for that matter as per the look you want for the snowflake.

Christmas Snowflake

Christmas Snowflake

For each snowflake you would need 6 Square papers, Gluestick, Stapler, Ruler and Pencil (for marking purpose).

1. With each sheet of paper, fold the paper diagonally and once again fold it diagonally, thereby making it triangle.

2. Mark three points at equal distance and cut it till the end leaving about a half inch from the edge.

Triangle

3. After opening it, you will have a diamond with four triangles on each side. Put glue on every other point. You will be rolling two up, and then the alternate two down.

4. Turn it over, and do two the opposite direction.

5. Staple three together where they touch together. Make sure that all three are kept in same way where the bigger leaf is on either side for all three of them.

6. Then staple two of these together. Staple each flake with each other where they touch so that they don’t fall when you hang them.

7. Hang them from ceiling with the help of thread where ever you wish to!!!

Bottle Craft

Standard

It’s been quite long since I have done something artistic. I decided to pick up something new and what can be better then using stuff which is in your own office as garbage.

Bottles are most commonly found in houses specially glass bottles of breezer, beer and wine etc. Usually we throw these bottles away. So, I decided to keep them and do some bottle craft.

There are many ideas that are going through my mind

1. Glass paint the bottle. This is the most common way of reusing glass bottle and then you can keep set of bottles at some corner of your house. You can also group 6 bottles together, tie them and use them as flower vase.

2. Cover up the bottle with different colored papers and make some design out of them. This looks pretty for few months but then as paper starts fading out, the show of the bottle also goes away.

3. Beading uo the bottle. Pick up randon beads from market and stick them to your bottle. This not only looks beautiful but also give an artistic edge to the looks.

I am thinking of doing the beading up of the bottle but I will try paints too but acrylic paints and not glass paint as acrylic paints will give rustic look then transparent which comes from glass paint.

Watch out this for more.. Any suggestions are most welcome!!!

Paper Quilling – Making Flower

Standard

Quilling can be used to make greeting cards, decorating objects and even building three-dimensional sculptures. In this post, I will show you simple technique to make flower out of quilling stripes. You would require

1. 5 pink/red (any color of your choice) strips for flower
2. Quilling needle
3. Glue Stick/Fevicol
4. Scissors
5. Template with Circles (any stationary shop will have that)

At the end, we will have flower that looks like this.

Quilled Flower

Instructions

1. Insert the end of the paper into the needle of quilling tool.

2. Turn the slotted tool towards you. Place your thumb or index finger at the very tip of the slotted tool: this will prevent the paper from slipping off the tool. Use the other fingers to guide the strip of paper so that it rolls into an even plug (called a tight coil).

3. Gently pull the roll off the needle and put in into the circles template. Choose a circle of your choice. It should not be very big in diameter. Let the paper unrolls up to the size of the circle.

4. Glue the strip at the end and let it dry for few seconds.

5. Take the coil out and pinch it on one side. You’ve just got one of the basic quilling shapes (see at the end of this article), which is called a “teardrop”. There are lot of different shapes that can be made, but the idea is always the same: roll and pinch.

Petal

6. Make petals for the flower in the same manner and glue them together.

7. Make a peg shape in yellow by rolling a tight coil (you don’t release it before gluing) using a strip of paper (preferably in different color), then glue it closed while it’s still on the tool. Gently ease off the peg from the tool.

Quilled Tight Roll (Peg)

8. To finish add a dot of glue to the centre of the flower and add the yellow centre on top.

After making few flowers, you will get the confidence to try out different designs and shapes. You can search various designs on intranet and try to make them. Below is the guide that will show you different shapes that can be made from Quilling.

Quilling Shapes

Happy Quilling!

Quilling

Standard

“Quilling” or paper filigree is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create decorative designs. The paper is wound around a quill to create a basic coil shape. The paper is then glued at the tip and these shaped coils are arranged to form flowers, leaves, and various ornamental patterns similar to ironwork.

The craft has become increasingly popular due to the low cost of the material. It is used to decorate wedding invitations, birth announcements, greeting cards, scrapbook pages, and boxes. “Quilling” can be found in art galleries in Europe and in the United States and is an art that is practiced around the world.

Basic Materials Needed for Quilling

1. Quilling Needle: The needle tool is one of the most widely used quilling tools. It allows you to make small centers in rolls and scrolls which produces more attractive quilling. It is a necessity for the beginner and the experienced quiller. The handle makes it easier and more comfortable to use when rolling your quilling paper.

2. Quilling Paper Strips: The standard width is 3mm for most items, 1.5mm for fine narrow work, and 6mm, 9mm, or even 12mm for folded roses and fringed flowers. You can buy quilling strips from hobby and craft shops.

3. Glue/Fevi Stick.

There are various other tools that are available in market for Quilling which can be used when you get hang of how to do quilling and is comfortable playing around with different shapes. More posts on “how to do Quilling” will follow soon!

Paper Basket

Standard

Hi Friends,

Today I am going to put up a tutorial on how to make a paper basket, which can be made from newspaper or any magazine. I ended up making one like this.

Paper Basket

Paper Basket

You would need following things to make Paper Basket

1. Newspaper
2. Glue Stick/Fevicol
3. Fevi Quick
4. Thin Stick (to help roll the paper)

To make newspaper basket,

1. Tear off the newspaper into halves and with the help of stick roll the newspaper and make the rolled long sticks. I made approx. 25 of them. Flatten the sticks so that they can get the desired shapes.

Paper Sticks

2. With the help of any small object, like old Fevi Stick, start rolling the sticks by gluing the edges during start and at the end. I chose circle as it is easy to make. You can pick old nail paint and make squares out of them.

Making Design

3. Layout base for your design. I made a square which can be bit tough for beginners. You can try out by making circle by putting one in between and other designs around it. Stick the circles with each other with the help of Fevi Quick.

Basket Base

4. With the help of flattened sticks, roll them around to make border. Paste first stick from one of the corner and other one from the opposite corner with the help of Fevi Quick.

5. Tear off 1/8th paper (approx.) and make thin strips by folding them and attach them in between circles to give them strength using fevicol or glue.

6. Paste the circle vertically to your base and stick the circles with the help of Fevi Quick.

7. The “Paper Basket” is complete.

Please give me feedback, comments and improvisations so that I can make this a better one.
